Ambivalent about his identity

Husein abdel Hussein, writing in al Mudun, described the Arab affairs advisor to Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders as “hesitating in his identity between an Arab Muslim and a minority Christian from the Middle East.” Zogbi’s ancestry is Lebanese Maronite but he has been promoting Arab Nationalism in the US via the Arab American Institute. Abdel Hussein wrote that when Zogbi was announced as advisor, many blogs praised him as “pro Palestine.” However Hussein argues that Zogbi claims he is of two identies at the same time. “He claims he loves Palestine but at the same time he loves Assad the butcher of the Syrian people.” (sic)

This article reveals further the divide in the region between the backers of the Iran Assad Hezbollah axis, which according to Abdel Hussein, is promoted by Mr Zogbi, and the Sunni opposition, itself divided in two camps, Islamist Jihadist, and Arab nationalist. This article reveals that the mounting indluence in foreign affairs advising in the Sanders camp, tilts towards Iran and Assad.

Hussein abdel Hussein is an Arab writer with focus on Middle East and Iran affairs. He wrote on the “Iran lobby” in the US
